Rescue Drama in Žabljak: 14 Lives Saved in Bangladesh, Russia, and Montenegro – News
Intense storms, accompanied by strong winds, affected nearly all regions of Montenegro today. The most dramatic events unfolded in Žabljak, where nine individuals became trapped in the snow during two rescue operations.
“Foreign nationals were stuck in the snow on local roads within the Žabljak area. Fortunately, the situation did not escalate into a major crisis, and the rescue efforts were manageable. The individuals were trapped but had support from local responders to address the issue. We primarily extracted them using vehicles and brought them back to the town,” stated Drago Popović, Commander of the Protection and Rescue Service in Žabljak, in an interview with Rina.
The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that seven citizens from Bangladesh and two Russians were rescued during the two operations in Žabljak, while a further five Montenegrin citizens were saved during a third effort on Krnovo.
Emergency calls were made via OKC 112, which assisted in the location and safe evacuation of all individuals. A red and orange meteoalarm is currently in effect across Montenegro. In Podgorica, strong winds uprooted trees and damaged facades, while snow continued to fall along the coast.
