The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has announced that its party congress will take place on February 16th.
The 25th Congress of the DPS was initially set for January 16th but was delayed following the tragedy in Cetinje. Last month, “Vijesti” was informally informed by the DPS that the event is now rescheduled for February 16th.
DPS Vice President Abaz Dizdarević and Secretary General Aleksandar Bogdanović addressed a DPS forum in Plav yesterday as part of their campaign for the forthcoming Congress. They emphasized that Plav exemplifies how European and civic governance can positively transform a city and improve living conditions for its residents.
Dizdarević remarked that the DPS serves as the “backbone of civic Montenegro,” having demonstrated, during its tenure, the statesmanship necessary to navigate the country through challenging times while preserving peace and interfaith harmony, alongside fostering national development to align with modern European standards.
“We have proven our capability, which is why we are unveiling a comprehensive program for the upcoming Congress. The first point of this program focuses on safeguarding state dignity and promoting multiethnic and multireligious coexistence, while the second point outlines our vision for economic progress and enhancing the lives of Montenegrin citizens,” he stated.
Dizdarević further emphasized that to realize this “ambitious Program,” it is vital to “continue enhancing the DPS’s standing,” just as was accomplished last year, which necessitates consistent and daily effort.
“We must expedite the end of Montenegro’s downturn and work towards establishing a responsible and knowledgeable government promptly,” declared Dizdarević, as quoted by the DPS.
Bogdanović expressed that Plav “understands the significance of fighting for dignity,” a core theme of the upcoming DPS Congress slogan.
“You are familiar with the concepts of honest work, sacrifice, and striving for your children’s future. You understand that Montenegro can and must improve! Hence, we are sending a clear message: it is our duty to halt the current government and steer the country back towards security, stability, and development.”
Commenting on the DPS Program, Bogdanović stated that Montenegro’s economy should be founded on labor, knowledge, and investments, “not populism and reckless governance.”
He noted that the DPS has always upheld unity among citizens, irrespective of faith, nationality, or religion, remaining true to the vision of a civic, multiethnic, and multiconfessional Montenegro: “As the saying goes: When a house is united, not even the wind can destroy it.”
Bogdanović affirmed that the DPS is “a force that safeguards, preventing the collapse of our state’s foundations,” adding that they approach the upcoming DPS Congress on February 16th with “renewed strength, determination, and preparedness.” “It is time for Montenegro to be the dignified, stable, and European nation that all its citizens deserve.”
