The Central European Volleyball Zonal Association (MEVZA) has granted approval, at the request of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, for Montenegrin volleyball clubs to participate in the regional MEVZA league!
The MEVZA league is a competitive arena featuring clubs from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary, where our clubs and junior national teams are eligible to compete starting from the 2025/2026 season.
Nikola Kažić, the president of the Volleyball Association of Montenegro, expressed his delight at this historic milestone for Montenegrin club volleyball.
“I am extremely pleased and proud to announce to the Montenegrin volleyball community that from the 2025/2026 season, both men’s and women’s clubs from Montenegro will have the chance to compete in the regional MEVZA league,” stated the president of our association.
Montenegrin volleyball clubs will benefit from an increased number of high-quality matches against regional opponents.
“We have realized what I can confidently call a dream that true volleyball enthusiasts have nurtured for nearly 18 years, ever since the restoration of our independence. I firmly believe that this achievement will elevate Montenegrin volleyball across all dimensions and give rise to numerous new senior national team players through the clubs participating in this esteemed league,” remarked Kažić.
Moreover, our younger representative teams will also have opportunities to gain invaluable experience.
“Our U18 and U20 teams will be able to participate in MEVZA competitions for younger categories, thereby enhancing their development through an additional quantity of quality matches each year.”
The president of our association hopes that governmental and local institutions will extend their support to the association and the clubs partaking in the MEVZA league.
“I hope that this significant initiative for Montenegrin volleyball will be acknowledged by state and local authorities, and that they will provide adequate backing to the Volleyball Association of Montenegro and the clubs involved in this financially challenging competition.”
Kažić also highlighted that the application and approval journey was lengthy and arduous; previously, there were occasions when approval was not granted. However, the leadership of the MEVZA Zonal Association and the new CEV management showed understanding for the needs of Montenegrin volleyball.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Valentina Biflin, president of the MEVZA Zonal Association, and Mr. Franet Žanić, director of MEVZA and president of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, for their understanding and unwavering support in this crucial effort for the development of Montenegrin volleyball.”
Director of MEVZA and president of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, Frane Žanić, communicated this exciting news to our federation in Porto during the 39th Congress of the World Volleyball Federation, attended by president Nikola Kažić and general secretary Ivan Bošković, representing OSCG.
“It is both an honor and a pleasure to announce together with the president and secretary of the Volleyball Association of Montenegro that Montenegrin clubs will be joining the MEVZA league. This step is beneficial for both Montenegro and the MEVZA league, as it will enhance the quality of competition. Clubs like Herceg Novi, Budva, and Budućnost carry substantial prestige, and their involvement will foster progress and development in the MEVZA league moving forward. I believe the MEVZA league is on a very promising trajectory, and I would like to once again thank President Kažić and Secretary Bošković for their efforts; we have successfully achieved our goal of involving Montenegrin clubs in the MEVZA league this year,” stated Frane Žanić, director of the MEVZA Zonal Associations.
