The Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) has officially introduced its new coaches today: Jov Caković, who takes charge of the women’s team, and Ivica Jevtić, who will lead the men’s team.
Caković has signed a four-year contract with OSCG, while Jevtić will work under a three-year agreement with the possibility for future collaboration.
Jovo Caković succeeds Milorad Krunić as the head coach of the national team. Last season, he achieved a remarkable triple crown with Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova and also enjoyed success with Serbia’s youth teams.
Caković mentioned that the talent of young Montenegrins served as a strong motivation for his appointment and stated that he is welcoming all who wish to contribute to the growth of women’s volleyball in Montenegro.
“Today is a special day for me. While I feel a mix of emotions, I recognize the significant responsibility of regaining the trust of those who appointed me. I am confident that throughout the next four years we will be even more driven to elevate the standards of Montenegrin volleyball, particularly in the women’s sector,” Caković expressed during the presentation.
Caković is now the seventh head coach of the Montenegrin volleyball team since the country’s independence.
“What motivates me? I see a group of people filled with great enthusiasm, especially President Kažić. Such individuals are rare nowadays. I am hopeful that we will celebrate our achievements together and request your immense patience. I aspire to guide our youth to be exemplary individuals, and I believe we will cultivate strong collaboration with players who are eager to represent the national team,” Caković added.
Ivica Jevtić makes his return to Montenegrin volleyball after having previously represented Montenegro and played for Budućnost. He was part of the coaching staff under Igor Kolaković for Serbia’s senior national team (2022-2024) and also served as the head coach for Serbia’s U22 men’s volleyball team.
“I am grateful to the president for the trust placed in me and to all the members of the Board of Directors for deciding to appoint me as a selector. From the moment President Kažić reached out to me, I felt excited, recalling how I gained recognition as a player in Montenegro, particularly with Budućnost. Now, I have the chance to carve out my place in the volleyball world as a coach, and I am eager for us to grow together. It is truly a privilege. I hope to meet the expectations of all volleyball enthusiasts and the broader sports community,” said Jevtić.
Jevtić takes over from Ivan Joksimović.
“The previous coach initiated the process of rejuvenating the national team, and we will continue that momentum. Our primary objective will be to support the development of young talent and to perform admirably in the second phase of the European Championship qualifiers. Although our chances of qualification are slim, we will not give up. Achieving success in putting our young players in the spotlight will be an accomplishment,” the new coach stated.
The president of OSCG, Nikola Kažić, expressed his contentment that the newly appointed selectors were the only candidates considered for these roles.
“I aim for us to foster optimal cooperation. I will always be at your service, and I trust you will be at ours as well. Together, we will create the best working environment possible. I also extend my gratitude to the previous selectors for their commendable work and wish them all the best. When the Board of Directors set out to find selectors, we assessed our needs based on the youthful yet promising nature of our teams. We were searching for coaches possessing a winning mentality, and I could not be more pleased with our selection,” Kažić remarked.
Kažić also announced that the goal is to deeply monitor the progress of Montenegrin volleyball.
“These were the only two individuals we engaged with; they were our top choices. We successfully brought them to Montenegro, realizing our aspirations. I won’t use many words. These coaches have achieved multiple accolades on both club and national levels. They have been integral to esteemed coaching staff and are widely recognized. Our aim is to closely track the evolution of Montenegrin volleyball. We are set to enhance the collaborative efforts in the years ahead with our senior teams,” Kažić concluded.
The new coaches will embark on their initial duties in mid-May next year when the European League begins. Additionally, in August, the qualifiers for the European Championship will resume. Previously, the volleyball team faced two defeats against the Czech Republic (3:1) and Norway (3:0), along with a challenging five-set loss to Latvia (3:2).
