Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović Holds Meeting with Director-General Koopman
Today in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović held a meeting with Gert Jan Koopman, the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST) at the European Commission.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović reiterated Montenegro’s strong dedication to meeting its obligations in the EU accession process. He highlighted the critical importance of maintaining the momentum of reforms and ensuring institutional stability.
In response, Director-General Koopman affirmed that both the European Commission and he personally are fully committed to continuously supporting Montenegro in its endeavor to become the next EU member by 2028.
The discussion also addressed the political landscape in Montenegro, with both officials agreeing on the importance of keeping a strong focus on the country’s primary foreign policy goal—EU membership. They particularly emphasized the need for the legislative branch to function efficiently to facilitate the adoption of laws essential for further progress on the EU journey.
The meeting included discussions about Montenegro’s intentions to close negotiation chapters during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council.
