Taekwondo athletes from Durmitor, junior cadet Luka Šibalić and pioneer Teodora Kalpačina, achieved remarkable success at the European Championship for junior cadets and pioneers held in Tirana, with Luka winning a silver medal and Teodora securing a bronze.
The championship featured 601 competitors from 36 nations, with the Durmitor team proudly guided by coach Kariev.
Younger cadet Luka Šibalić displayed exceptional skill by overcoming a formidable opponent from Azerbaijan in the semi-finals. However, he faced a tough challenge in the final against an Italian competitor and ultimately fell short.
Pioneer Teodora Kalpačina, in her first competition, reached the semi-finals but was eliminated by a Croatian competitor who went on to become the tournament champion.
Pioneer Pavle Mladenović triumphed over an Italian fighter in the opening round but was halted by a Serbian opponent in the hunt for a medal.
Younger cadet Andrea Kalpačina fought valiantly but was edged out by an Italian competitor in a closely contested match for a medal.
Younger cadets Milena Mladenović and Vladimir Golubović competed in categories with 30 to 55 participants. Unfortunately, the draw did not favor them, and they were unable to secure a medal. “The athletes gave their all, and we will continue to strive for improvement,” the club stated.
Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for the Balkan Championship, the Balkan G Cup in Romania, the G tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the inaugural Durmitor Cup and the Montenegro Cup, scheduled for December 15 at the Sports Center Žabljak, organized by the Durmitor Taekwondo Club.
