On Tuesday, residents of Montenegro voluntarily handed over 74 weapons, 2,109 rounds of ammunition, seven bombs, and firearm components, as reported by the Police Directorate.
This initiative is part of the “Respect Life, Return Weapons” campaign, an ongoing program by the Police Directorate for several years.
In Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Tuzi, and Cetinje, citizens returned a total of 34 firearms to the authorities, including 15 pistols and 19 rifles, along with 1,145 rounds of ammunition of various types and calibers, plus three bombs.
According to the statement: “In Kotor, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Budva, and Bar, a total of 18 weapons, 437 rounds of ammunition of different types and calibers, explosive devices, and parts of firearms were voluntarily surrendered.”
In the regions of Bijelo Polje, Berane, Mojkovac, and Plav, residents voluntarily surrendered nine firearms—six rifles and three pistols—as well as 226 rounds of diverse ammunition, four bombs, and firearm components.
Furthermore, “In Nikšić, Pljevlja, and Šavnik, citizens voluntarily returned 13 firearms—seven rifles and six pistols—along with 301 rounds of ammunition,” the statement added.
Since the start of January, police reported that a total of 1,709 firearms, 54,913 rounds of ammunition, 162 hand grenades, and numerous firearm parts and explosive devices have been surrendered voluntarily.
Authorities reminded that retaining weapons that belong to family members or relatives—whether or not probate proceedings have been initiated in a competent court—constitutes possession of an illegal weapon under the Weapons Act.
“Until one of the legal heirs obtains a permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to possess these weapons,” they emphasized.
The police encourage citizens to contact them at 122 if they wish to return a weapon, assuring that there will be no legal, criminal, or misdemeanor consequences, regardless of whether the weapon is legally or illegally possessed.
