“Four Adriatic Teams Reach Semifinals of the Montenegrin Women’s Volleyball Cup”
The volleyball team from Herceg Novi, current champions of the Montenegrin Cup, has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the major competition, where they could face teams such as Luka Bar, Budva, and Albatros.
The semi-final matchups will be decided through a draw, with the matches scheduled for February 2025.
In the initial derby between teams from Herceg Novi and Podgorica, the champions and previous Cup winners, Herceg Novi’s players delivered a convincing performance against Morača. Coach Srđan Crnojački’s team triumphed 3:0 (25:14, 25:5, 25:15), affirming their status as favorites in SC “Igalo”.
Captain Ralitsa Vasileva was named the best player of the match, scoring 15 points, and received substantial support in the attack from Marija Bojić and Anđelka Radišković, who both contributed seven points. On the opposing side, Morača’s top scorer, Anastasija Koprivica, matched that tally.
The team that was the EPCG Superliga runner-up and Cup finalists also advanced to the quarter-finals. Luka Bar secured a home victory against Jedinstvo with a score of 3:0 (25:11, 25:15, 25:18). Dijana Vuković showcased an impressive performance, accumulating 24 points in a match lasting less than an hour. Teodra Čavić also shone for the “mermaids,” adding 14 points in SC “Topolica”. For the Bjelopolje team, Tijana Merdović and Ivana Šebek each contributed seven points.
In the second match of Saturday’s lineup, Budva emerged victorious against Gimnazilac in a coastal derby, winning 3:0 (26:24, 25:15, 25:23) at the “Mediterranean Sports Center”, which featured two thrilling sets. Captain Elena Čolaković led with 13 points, supported by Viktorija Čoković with 11 and Vanja Matunović with 10 points. Staša Mitrović had an outstanding performance with eight points, despite her recent transfer to Unity from Stara Pazova, coached by Montenegro’s selector Jovo Caković. For Kotor, Matea Kovačec scored 14 points, and Brazilian player Taijane de Souza netted 10.
The year 2024 concluded with an exhilarating quarter-final match, where Albatros defeated Budućnost in a thrilling derby, winning 3:1 (28:26, 15:25, 25:16, 25:13). After an intense hour and a half of play at SC “Igalo”, the first two sets suggested a competitive match; however, Branka Obradović’s team finished strongly. Amina Musić led with 21 points, supported by Pidhurska with 12, and both Tuševljak and Polozevec contributing 11 each. Kristina Božović scored 18 points for Luka Bogojević’s team, while young talent Lana Rakočević added six points.
