Montenegro’s Kata Team Concludes World Championship with Two Wins and One Loss
The Montenegrin fly kata team finished just 0.3 points shy of securing second place in their group at the World Team and Team Karate Championship currently taking place in Pamplona, Spain.
Comprising of Vladimir Mijač, Arijan Kočan, Kenan Nikočević, and Nikola Milić, the Montenegrin squad delivered an impressive performance at the esteemed World Karate Federation (WKF) championship. Despite their efforts under the guidance of coach Milena Milačić, they ultimately claimed third place in a highly competitive group.
In their opening match, they triumphed over Poland with a score of 39.1 to 38.7, followed by a convincing victory against South Africa, 39.1 to 37.9.
Facing formidable opponents, the Montenegrin team put up a strong fight against Japan, the birthplace of karate, with a score of 39.7 to 41.7. However, a narrow defeat against Iran, 39.7 to 39.4, kept them from advancing to compete for second place.
The finals are scheduled for tomorrow, featuring Italy against Turkey and Spain facing the Japanese team.
The Montenegrin team earned their spot in this prestigious event by securing fifth place at this year’s European Championship in Zadar.
“The experiences gained by the men’s kata team during this competition are invaluable and will significantly benefit future contests. These performances also serve as a testament to the ongoing development and enhancement of the karate sport in Montenegro,” stated coach Milačić.
