Ex-Milan Coach Appointed as Lyon’s New Manager
Lyon Football Club has announced the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as their new head coach.
Fonseca takes over from Pierre Sage, who was relieved of his duties on Tuesday following a 1-1 stalemate against Nantes in the French league.
The decision to dismiss Sage came as a surprise to fans, as he guided Lyon to a sixth-place finish last season, notably overcoming a period when they were positioned last in the standings.
The Portuguese coach, who recently managed Milan, is set to make his debut on Sunday against Marseille.
Fonseca has previously enjoyed success, securing the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto in 2013 and the Portuguese Cup with Braga in 2016.
His managerial experience also includes stints at Shakhtar Donetsk, Roma, and Lille.
