With their 12th victory in the last 13 games and fifth win in six EuroCup matches, the remarkable run of Buducnost Voli’s basketball team continued against Juventud.
Under the leadership of Andrej Žakelj, the team convincingly defeated Juventud 107:75, setting up a decisive match against Wolves to determine their playoff fate.
“I must commend the players for their professionalism; it’s challenging to stay motivated and focused with games every two to three days. Yet, they give their all every time, which is evident on the court. I believe we are playing excellent basketball,” Žakelj remarked during the press conference.
That was indeed the case this time as well.
“Especially in the second half, where we executed our defensive strategy and scored easy points, we relaxed and, with the fantastic support of our fans, who were excellent, we earned our victory,” Žakelj added.
The team has diligently cultivated its current success, despite facing skepticism at the start.
“For me, there was never any doubt, but building takes time. This team has been assembled according to my vision; things started to take shape even though we experienced a small crisis in November while seeking roles. However, everything has crystallized over the last two months, and the players have grasped my expectations, which is reflected on the court. I’m not saying we won’t have some poor performances and losses, but I believe we all now understand the potential of this team when it plays like it did tonight,” Žakelj stated with clarity.
Approximately 4,000 fans at “Morača” applauded him at the conclusion of the game.
“That feedback indicates I’m on the right track; it’s the highest praise we can receive from players and fans alike following training and matches. This is a period where we’re performing well, and I hope we can maintain this momentum without faltering after the first loss. It’s essential for all of us to stay grounded since there are many more games ahead,” the Slovenian coach added with a chuckle.
