Detention of Ten Individuals Extended Following Canopy Collapse in Novi Sad

The High Court in Novi Sad has announced the extension of the detention for Nebojša Šurlan, Slobodan Naumović, Ljiljana Milić Marković, Marina Gavrilović, Dejan Todorović, Milan Jelkić, Zorica Slavković Marjanović, Dušan Janković, Milan Spremić, and Jasna Stojiljković Milić for an additional 30 days. These individuals were arrested in relation to the collapse of the railway station canopy in the city.

According to reports from N1, the defendants and their legal representatives have the option to appeal this ruling to the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad.

The prosecutor’s office has previously indicated that the charges against them could carry a prison sentence ranging from two to twelve years.

The tragic incident on November 1, 2024, resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals and left two others with serious injuries. This disaster has prompted ongoing student and civic protests.
