A day after the announcement that Dragan Bajić would no longer be the coach of Sutjeska’s basketball team, the now-former coach from Nikšić expressed his thoughts.
Sutjeska revealed that Bajić “departed for personal reasons.” In a statement to “Vijesti,” the former coach of Igokea expressed gratitude to everyone at the club and emphasized that he enjoyed a remarkable five and a half months in Nikšić.
“It is my ethical duty to communicate with the public following my departure from Sutjeska. I want to express my appreciation to the club for their understanding and unwavering support. I signed a two-year contract with the shared goal of advancing Sutjeska in all relevant aspects,” stated Bajić.
He had anticipated that the contract would extend beyond the initial term…
“After five and a half months in Nikšić, I was filled with optimism and enthusiasm, believing we were on the right path to achieve our goal, and that this two-year period would indeed be extended. My optimism stemmed primarily from the human factor, the mutual respect, the wonderful individuals, and the overall positive energy present. Remarkably, I experienced one of the most cherished periods of my life,” added Bajić.
Bajić opted not to elaborate on the reasons behind his sudden exit, instead choosing to speak highly of the Nikšić club.
“From a sporting perspective, what fueled my optimism about the potential to construct a positive and healthy narrative was the club’s organization. Sutjeska is not trailing behind significantly larger clubs. The energy, dedication, and responsibility demonstrated by the people, particularly the director Zoran Marojević, were pivotal. Especial mention goes to the mayor of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, and his vision for not just basketball but all sports in Nikšić—enhancing infrastructure, improving organizational elements, providing financial backing, and all the necessary components to elevate the club to a more advanced level.”
He also expressed gratitude to the players, notably highlighting captain Filip Barović.
“Thank you for the exceptional collaboration; I endeavored to enhance every training session and to ensure the players remained kindhearted individuals. It was effortless to achieve this with a captain of Filip Barović’s caliber. I would like to extend my thanks to all my colleagues from the opposing teams for the respect you showed me, as well as to the referees and all players. I aimed to reciprocate the kindness,” concluded Bajić.
