Recently, we have observed a significant increase in the number of advertisements—referred to as Advertisements—that appear on deceptive portals. These sites mimic the visual branding of reputable news platforms and utilize artificial intelligence to create fabricated stories and fake statements supposedly made by public figures from Montenegro. These activities are part of clickbait campaigns aimed at redirecting social media users to other, often unreliable, websites, as reported by the Police Directorate today.
The Police Directorate emphasized, “Clickbait campaigns that disseminate fake news and disinformation employ exaggerated headlines, enticing posts, and eye-catching images to draw users in, frequently directing them to websites featuring questionable or entirely false content. Such campaigns can severely jeopardize public opinion, erode trust in media and social platforms, and may even have adverse effects on users’ mental health.”
Furthermore, the Police Directorate urged internet users to remain vigilant and verify information sources before accepting them as true.
“As a community, it is our duty to unite in combating the proliferation of clickbait campaigns featuring fake news and to collaboratively advocate for accurate and trustworthy information. By doing so, we can uphold the integrity of public discourse and ensure that our society thrives on a foundation of truthful and verified information,” they added.
