The court in Gevgelija has ordered the detention of a suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl, according to a statement released by the Gevgelija prosecutor’s office today.
The prosecutor’s office noted in its announcement that an investigative procedure has been initiated against an individual accused of committing a criminal offense—specifically, the rape of a child under the age of 15 as stipulated in Article 188, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
According to the statement from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Đevđelija, the incident occurred on January 22 when the suspect, a resident of Radoviš, engaged in sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl from the village of Valandovo, after having previously communicated with her through social media. However, the statement did not disclose the age of the suspect.
Moreover, the public prosecutor has submitted a request to the preliminary proceedings judge to impose detention, citing concerns that the suspect may flee or tamper with evidence related to the crime.
The Basic Court in Gevgelija has granted this request, ordering a detention period of 30 days, as confirmed by the prosecutor’s office from the southeastern city of North Macedonia.
