Berishaj Secures Gold Medal, Komatini Claims Bronze Medal
Andrea Berishaj, a junior from the Podgorica taekwondo club S3, secured a gold medal at the Grand Prix final tournament for cadets and juniors held in Bucharest.
She was also honored with the title of best junior of the tournament for her outstanding performance.
This tournament is classified as E10 level and featured 16 of the top fighters in Europe per weight category.
In the finals of the under 63-kilogram weight class, Berishaj triumphed over Spain’s Leticia Arbuzina.
As the tournament’s top seed, she had a bye in the first round and went on to defeat Maria Leonova from Ukraine and Ines Djokovic from Serbia in the subsequent rounds.
Ognjen Komatina, a junior from Olimp, also made it to the podium.
He began as the top seed and received a bye in the opening round of the under 68-kilogram category.
In the second round, Komatina overcame Turkey’s Egeard Donmez but faced elimination in the semifinals against Burg Kosgungonul.
He secured a bronze medal by defeating Dimitrios Micos from Greece in the bronze match.
Juniors Vasilije Nestorović from Club S3 (under 59 kg) and Mateo Muratović from Montenegrostars (under 73 kg) were eliminated early in the tournament.
“These results are fantastic for Montenegrin sports. The tournament featured the finest fighters in Europe. We have showcased our quality, and the medalists have solidified their standings at the top of the European rankings,” said coach Vlado Stanišić in a statement to the MINA agency.
On the first day of the competition, Friday, Tara Šljivančanin, a cadet from the Podgorica Taekwondo Club S3, clinched a gold medal, while Lana Baletić and Marija Nestorović each took home bronze medals.
