We No Longer Need to Make Excuses

The Mornar basketball team is set to face Mega in Bar tomorrow (18) as part of their challenging series in the AdmiralBet ABA League. This will be another tough game for Mihailo Pavićević’s squad, which suffered a significant defeat to the same opponent earlier this season (84:59).
As he prepares for the upcoming match, Coach Pavićević reflected on his team’s recent performances. Mornar is currently in a rough patch with 11 consecutive losses and has only one victory in regional competition, having faced defeats against Budućnost Voli, Crvena zvezda, and Cedevita-Olimpija in their last three outings.
“First and foremost, I want to focus on my team, especially considering our last three games. The way we played in those matches leaves little room for optimism. There were confusing stretches where the team seemed to give up completely, which is what surprises me the most. I hope we can turn this around and fully understand our current situation. While we previously made excuses about the quality of our opponents, we can’t do that anymore. Moving forward, apart from the match against Partizan, every game is critical for us,” Pavićević stated ahead of the match.
Mornar has not managed to defeat Mega in their last five encounters, with their last victory over the “small-big club” on March 20, 2022, when they won in Belgrade (83:70). Their only other win against Mega at “Topolica” was in December 2021, a close match that ended 79:75. Mega is favored to win this upcoming match.
“We have a very challenging game ahead against a young and talented team. Mega has consistently played with high energy, and that’s typical of youth teams. They lead the league in attacks, which speaks volumes about their playing style. However, there’s a difference between theoretical plans and executing them effectively. For the remainder of the season, every match is crucial. I expect all players to give their best effort, to secure possession, and to demonstrate that we are ready to compete. This is what I need to see from our team right now,” added Pavićević.
Mornar’s player Novak Peković expressed confidence in their preparations.
“Mega is known for their fast-paced and aggressive style of basketball, both offensively and defensively. We’ve trained well and entered this match prepared. I believe that if we maintain maximum concentration and effort throughout the full 40 minutes, we can achieve a favorable outcome,” concluded Peković.
