Political Leaders Must Reach a Resolution to Resolve the Crisis

Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović emphasized the importance of political leaders finding a resolution to the existing constitutional and parliamentary crisis, to prevent any adverse effects on the country’s European integration process.

This statement was made during a meeting with Manuel Saracino, Germany’s special envoy for the Western Balkans.

“The friendly discussion reaffirmed the strong and allied relationship between Montenegro and Germany, highlighted by the extensive political dialogue that has taken place recently,” Milatović posted on the social platform X.

He underscored Montenegro’s appreciation for Germany’s ongoing support in its pursuit of full European Union (EU) membership, noting that Montenegro—with the most closed chapters—has all the qualifications needed to become the next EU member by 2028.

“In this regard, I stressed the need for political actors to find a solution that would bring an end to the current constitutional and parliamentary crisis, so as to avert consequences that could hinder our European journey,” Milatović stated.

The two also talked about enhancing bilateral relations between Montenegro and Germany during their meeting.

“I highlighted that Montenegro will strive to strengthen our cooperation with Germany moving forward, with a shared goal of promoting stability and progress in the region, while also reinforcing the European values we uphold,” Milatović concluded.
