Students from Belgrade universities began a protest march to Novi Sad around 10:30 a.m. to support their peers in Novi Sad, who plan to block all city bridges on February 2, marking three months since the tragic accident at the railway station there.
The student assembly commenced at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) in Belgrade, from which they proceeded to the University of Criminalistics and Police, where they will pause for 15 minutes to honor the victims of the canopy collapse at the renovated Railway Station in Novi Sad.
Citizens gathered to bid farewell to the students in front of the Faculty of Law, resulting in traffic being halted on the Boulevard adjacent to the faculty.
According to media reports, the student procession, under police escort, will be supported by farmers with tractors and motorcyclists.
Students plan to take multiple breaks throughout the march and intend to rest for the night in Inđija.
During the blockade, students called on citizens to join their cause, organizing the necessary resources for the event.
Belgrade students have announced they will also travel to Novi Sad by bicycle on Friday.
This morning, Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that members of the department will “fully secure” the route of the student march from Belgrade to Novi Sad.
