Germany Backs Montenegro’s Journey Towards European Integration

The integration of Montenegro into the European Union is a top priority for the country. With robust backing from Germany and other allies, Montenegro is dedicated to finalizing negotiation chapters by 2025 while maintaining the momentum of reforms until it achieves full EU membership, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović during his discussions with Germany’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin.

Minister Ibrahimović highlighted Montenegro’s appreciation for Germany’s ongoing political and expert assistance in the European integration journey, especially as the nation aims to join the EU by 2028.

He noted that Montenegro possesses the necessary capabilities to complete its European integration process, a fact reflected in the substantial progress made over the last year. He further mentioned that at this point, support from Brussels partners is vital to enhance reform initiatives and ensure consistent advancements toward EU membership.

Special Envoy Sarrazin praised Montenegro’s efforts in implementing reforms and assured that Germany will continue to offer unwavering political and expert backing on its European journey. He emphasized the need to sustain the reform momentum, pointing out that consistency and effectiveness in carrying out reforms will be crucial for the ongoing negotiation process.

Additionally, the two officials shared insights on the importance of regional cooperation and fostering good neighborly relations. They concurred that the ongoing advancement of the region hinges on sustained dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaboration grounded in European values.
