The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided to prolong the detention of former BiH Minister of Security, Nenad Nešić, for an additional two months.

The detention periods for Mladen Lučić and Milan Dakić have also been extended.

They have remained in custody since late December of the previous year, with the State Prosecutor’s Office suspecting them of engaging in criminal activities related to money laundering, misuse of office, and bribery during their respective roles at “Putevi RS” and another undisclosed company.

The Prosecutor’s Office claims that Nešić accepted bribes totaling half a million euros throughout his four-year tenure as director of Putevi RS from 2016 to 2020.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, funds were siphoned out of the Public Enterprise “Putevi RS” through fraudulent legal maneuvers.

As per the prosecution, Nešić, in his capacity as director, annually received 250,000 marks (approximately 125,000 euros) from these illicit transactions.

The Chief Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milanko Kajganić, stated that the alleged criminal acts took place across both entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Nešić has held the position of Minister of Security of BiH since 2022.

On January 23, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted to dismiss him from his role as Minister of Security. Nešić had previously indicated his intention to resign via social media.

Out of 34 representatives present, 27 voted for Nešić’s removal, while seven opposed it, and one representative abstained.

Nešić is the leader of the Democratic People’s Alliance, which is allied with the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, headed by Milorad Dodik, the pro-Russian president of the Republika Srpska entity.
