The Montenegrin women’s pioneer national team secured an impressive win in the third round of the European Championship qualifiers. They made a comeback to triumph over Romania with a score of 3:1 (10:25, 25:18, 25:22, 26:24).
Despite a rocky start at the “Hristo Botev” hall in Sofia, where they managed only 10 points in the first set, Petar Koković’s squad displayed remarkable resilience and turned the match around in their favor.
In the second set, thanks to Klara Đukić’s outstanding performance, the Montenegrin team built a substantial seven-point lead (20:13) and closed out the set with a score of 25:18, bringing the sets level.
The third set showcased even better play from our national team. The young athletes displayed confidence from the onset, establishing a significant advantage of 16:9. Although the Romanian side attempted to narrow the gap, the Montenegrins held their ground, winning the set 25:22 and taking a 2:1 lead.
In the fourth set, the Montenegrins continued their strong performance. With Sara Striković serving effectively, they built a 20:12 lead. However, the Romanians fought back to level the score at 23:23, creating an exciting finish. Nonetheless, our team maintained composure in the crucial moments, clinching the set 26:24 for a 3:1 victory overall.
Klara Đukić and Elena Jovanović were standout players today, instrumental in their team’s success with 21 and 20 points, respectively. On the opposing side, Gabrijela Bjanka Kuku delivered an impressive performance with 37 points.
Our youngest volleyball players began their campaign with a perfect score against Serbia, and although they faced a tough battle in the second round, they were narrowly defeated by Bulgaria 3:2. They are set to take on the Turkish national team on Saturday at 19:00.
