Usyk Outshines Fury in the Latest Showdown of Gladiators

The Royal Arena in Riyadh hosted a grand event, marking six months since a thrilling showdown between two legendary champions, modern gladiators whose match will be talked about for ages. Once again, the result mirrored their encounter on May 18.

Oleksandr Usyk has reaffirmed his status as the heavyweight champion, the Iron Man from Crimea, defeating Tyson Fury by unanimous decision after 12 intense rounds and successfully defending his titles from the WBC, WBA, and WBO federations.

At 37 years old, this remarkable Ukrainian continues to hold an unbeaten record in the heavyweight category—this marked his 23rd bout, leading to his 23rd win.

Throughout the match, it appeared that Tyson was in command until the sixth round, after which Usyk delivered a series of punishing blows that rattled the Brit. Both fighters exchanged powerful hits, yet Usyk consistently seemed more prepared and delivered stronger strikes.

Ultimately, the judges had to render a decision, but there was an undeniable sense that Ukraine and its phenomenal champion would celebrate another victory as the final bell rang.

Many speculated that this might be the conclusion of Usyk’s career, but in the ring after the bout, when called out by Daniel Dubois, the Ukrainian responded in imperfect English.

“No problem, I’m ready. Next fight? No problem.”

Half a year ago, Usyk claimed the title of the heavyweight division champion, only for the IBF to strip him of one belt for failing to defend it within the required timeframe, allowing Dubois to ascend as the champion in that organization.

Usyk has faced off against Dubois before, securing a knockout victory in Wroclaw in August 2023.

As for Tyson Fury, the “Gypsy King” has once again fallen short against Usyk, yet he displayed immense heart throughout the match. It’s worth noting that his only two losses in professional boxing have been to the same opponent.

Even without a knockout, the bout was a spectacle, showcasing a flurry of punches exchanged between two giants and exceptional athletes…
