The handball players of Budućnost brought back memories of their most glorious moments with a superb game, winning against the three-time European champions from Norway, Vypers, with a score of 26:20.
In the ninth round of the EHF Champions League, the team led by Bojana Popović celebrated their first victory, having previously secured a draw with Đero, which brought their points total to four.
“Everything in our game functioned as we had envisioned, and for the first time this season, we maintained our focus for all 60 minutes without any fluctuations,” Popović explained. “We had prepared extensively for this match and had more time to strategize compared to Vipers. Although we had concerns after a two-month break from competition, we worked diligently to set up our defense properly, and we anticipated Vipers’ strategies, which did not catch us off guard. Everything we planned came to fruition. All the girls were given opportunities, and while we made a few mistakes, the energy was tremendous. I hope this is the start of even stronger performances in the remaining five matches of the group stage,” concluded Popović.
Right back Jelena Vukčević, who had a stellar performance against the three-time European champions, expressed her delight following the impressive victory, finishing as the top scorer with seven goals.
“It was a strong game for us, and the energy throughout the 60 minutes was fantastic. We were aggressive defensively, which reflected in our offense. Although we missed a few shots, our motivation kept us going, and we played hard until the end. This match was the first without any ups and downs, and we feel fantastic after achieving our first win of the season,” Vukčević stated.
