Submissions Now Open for the “Educator” Award Competition

The Alek Kavčić Foundation has launched a competition for the prestigious “Educator” award, aimed at recognizing and rewarding outstanding educators, teachers, lecturers, and instructors who contribute significantly to the advancement of education in Montenegro and the diaspora.

As explained by Nevena Mijajlović, a member of the organizing committee, the award aims not only to highlight the importance of education but also to strategically elevate the status of educators in society. She underlines that the “Prosvjetitelj” award is the highest accolade for teaching excellence in Montenegro, symbolizing dedication to the educational mission and innovations within the field.

All educators, teachers, lecturers, and instructors working with children and students aged 5 to 18, whether in formal or non-formal educational settings, are encouraged to participate. Nominations can be submitted by colleagues, students, parents, or even the candidates themselves. You can suggest a candidate HERE.

Applications can be submitted through the official award website by filling out the application form.

Kavčić, the foundation’s founder and initiator of the “Prosvjetitelj” award, stated that the primary goal is to enhance and promote science and education.

“The Educator Award was established to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and to emphasize the critical role of education in addressing the significant challenges facing this sector, from the marginalization of teachers to the necessity for a complete paradigm shift in education. I encourage those involved in preschool, primary, and secondary education, both formal and informal, to enter this year’s competition. Education policymakers must remember that education should not be regarded as an expense, but rather as a vital investment,” Kavčić remarked.

Finalists for the “Prosvjetitelj” award will automatically qualify to apply for the Global Teacher Prize.

Applications are due by March 31. The expert jury will reveal the semi-finalists on May 16, followed by the announcement of the finalists on June 14. The winners will be announced during the award ceremony set for October 16. The main prize is valued at $10,000, with each finalist receiving $3,000, and semi-finalists—up to six in total—receiving $1,000 each. Besides the cash reward, finalists will have access to educational workshops, production of films showcasing their teaching methods and achievements, and support for participation in the global competition for the best teacher in the world.

Further information about the competition requirements and application process can be found on the official award website.
