Jelena and Nikola: Popular Names in Montenegro
The name Jelena is the most frequently occurring female name in Montenegro, while Nikola tops the male names, according to the findings of the latest census on households and apartments.
This census was carried out between December 3 and December 30, 2023.
Other popular female names include Milica, Mary, John, Dragan, Vesna, and Angel. For males, the most common names are Marko, Milos, Petar, Zoran, Ivan, and Milan, as reported by Monstat.
MONSTAT has also released data on the most popular names categorized by age. A noticeable trend is that the name Sofia is favored for girls up to nine years old, while Angel is popular among girls aged 10 to 19. Jovana is the most common name for women aged 20 to 24, and Jelena remains prevalent among women aged 25 to 49.
For boys aged up to 19, Luka is the most common name. Among men aged 20 to 34, Nikola leads, while Marko is favored for those aged 35 to 39, Ivan for those aged 40 to 44, and Aleksandar for men aged 45 to 49.
Statistics indicate that Montenegro has the largest population concentration, with Markovic being the most common surname, followed by Kovačević, Jovanović, Knežević, Vujović, and Ivanović.
