The police in Rožaje have apprehended two individuals, identified as IS and RS, on suspicion of engaging in human trafficking, according to the announcement from the Police Directorate (UP).

During organized operations, officers from the Rožaje police discovered two suspects believed to be exploiting a minor for begging in the town square yesterday. The prosecutor from the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Bijelo Polje was notified of the situation, which led to further police actions, culminating in the apprehension of IS and RS at the Rožaje Security Department’s official premises, with the assistance of staff from the Rožaje Social Work Center,” the statement detailed.

IS and RS were arrested under the orders of the acting senior state prosecutor based on their suspected involvement in human trafficking against IS’s daughter, a minor.

“The alleged crime involved the exploitation of trust and a dependency relationship, compelling the victim to beg for unlawful financial gain,” the statement further added.

The Police Department indicated that the minor victim has been placed under the care of the Center for Social Work for further intervention.
