The Spanish Football Federation has announced the extension of Luis de la Fuente’s contract as head coach of the men’s national team for an additional two years, set to last until the conclusion of the 2028 European Championship.
According to a statement from the Federation, “De la Fuente will continue to oversee the men’s national team until the end of the 2028 European Championship, taking place in the United Kingdom and Ireland.”
The previous contract for De la Fuente was set to expire in 2026, following the World Cup hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
He succeeded Luis Enrique as national team coach in December 2022, following Spain’s exit from the World Cup in Qatar during the round of 16.
Before taking charge of the senior team, De la Fuente managed the Spanish youth national team and the Olympic squad, earning a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
Under his leadership, the Spanish national team secured victory at the European Championship in Germany last summer, as well as the Nations League title the previous year.
