Dubai Chocolate Manufacturer Temporarily Withdraws from Montenegrin Market
The Turkey-based chocolate manufacturer Sekerleme has been temporarily removed from the Montenegrin market pending further testing, as reported by the management for food safety, veterinary, and phytosanitary affairs.
According to their statement, a shipment of Dubai Chocolate, imported on 20th November, weighed 1,192 kilograms, packaged in 90 g portions, and originated from Istanbul, Turkey.
“A border inspector conducted a risk analysis, which led to the collection of a chocolate sample for laboratory testing to check for common non-compliance issues related to sweeteners and heavy metals. The laboratory report confirmed that the product meets regulations concerning sweeteners and heavy metals. However, as a precautionary measure, the decision was made to temporarily withdraw this product from the market for further examination,” said the administration’s statement.
Once results from the additional tests are received, the compliant products will be returned to the market.
“If inconsistencies are found in the tests, appropriate measures will be taken to either destroy or rectify the products. The Food Security Administration will keep the public informed about the results of the additional Dubai chocolate tests in a timely manner,” the statement concluded.
Dubai Chocolate is currently one of the most sought-after chocolates in Europe, with long queues reported daily in cities like Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Hamburg. This 150-gram chocolate is priced at 14.99 euros and is produced by the renowned Swiss brand Lindt.
In Montenegro, it is predominantly available from Turkish manufacturers, with the 90-gram chocolate priced at approximately 5 euros in local markets.
